Bookworms

With the announcement of the second Boston Book Festival slated for October 16, we're flipping the pages of our calendar towards the fall and saving the date.  We're always on the hunt for a great new novel, and with the success of last year's festivities, we'll be eager to see what the fair will hold this year.  90 authors, 40 outdoor exhibits, 30 children's events and live music and panel discussions were on the itinerary in 2009, and it seems as though 2010's festival will be bigger and better.  Stay tuned for a list of attending authors, events ad locations in the coming months.

The Art of Discovery

On January 31, the Mass Audubon Society Visual Arts Center in Canton will open an impressive new exhibit, "Isaac Sprague and the Art of Discovery", which showcases the well-known botanist's artistic talents.  Fascinating artwork of various species of birds in watercolor, pencil and ink will be on display, gathered from ten institutions and seven private collections, giving attendees a rare and extended view to some exclusive pieces from Sprague.  Bird-watching may not be the most exciting activity we can think of, but we'll always appreciate great art!

Looking for Love

Let's be honest here.  No one wants to be alone on Valentine's Day.  But not every woman is lucky enough to have someone sending her dozens of roses come February 14.  For those of us who are not-so-lucky in love this year, get to Boston Post Club's Annual New Year Cocktail Party at The Charles Hotel in Cambridge.  Instead of tirelessly searching for "the one" on eHarmony, this professional single's party is a classy way to meet a potential partner in person.  Rather then ponder whether online admirers are legitimate, go out and meet the real deal.  What have you got to lose?
