Imagine a typical lazy weekend, one in which preparing an exceptional home-cooked meal is not on the top of your to-do list.  You gather the kids, hit the road, en route to find a new restaurant to dine at.  There's only one issue- your children harbor a multitude of food allergies, and you drive around aimlessly not having the slightest clue as to what eateries cater to the essential health needs of your family.

Women generally turn to men when they're having problems getting their TV to function properly or they need a flat tire changed.  But seeking the assistance of a guy when it comes to find the elusive, perfect fitting bra?  That's a new one to us.

But Derek Ohly, Boston native and founder of Zyrra Custom Bras, is an exception to these rules, and once you try on one of his specifically created undergarments that are meticulously designed to conform to your specific body measurements, you'll swear off department store versions for good.

Scott Cecil and Dr. Richard Rice are not your typical guys.  They’re two men working to save the rainforest one beauty product at a time.  Their company Save Your World has a simple mission, 1 product =1 acre of rainforest =1 year.  Just by buying one of their all-natural, organic, fair-trade beauty products you can save an acre of the rainforest in Guyana for an entire year.  Everything the company does is in an environmentally friendly manner.  From packaging made of recycled materials to no animal testing, you can be sure that by purchasing these products you are giving back to the environment in more ways than one.  “When you buy a Save Your World product you know exactly what you’re doing for the environment,” said Cecil.  “It gives consumers a direct way to make a difference.  It’s really unique,” adds Rice.

Visit their web site for more information on Save Your World and to purchase products.

Yes, there's a good reason the Aerosmith bassist is dressed in pink and wearing a tiara, and it has nothing to do with losing a bet or excessive partying in London. In fact, Hamilton has been a vocal supporter of Urban Improv for several years, hamming it up in the Banned in Boston show to raise funds for the organization that teaches Boston area students violence prevention through role playing.

“Am I a good role model? I’m promoting a special kind of diversity,” he says.

Look closely—you’ll never consider the Chamber of Commerce a bunch of stuffy old guys again once you get an eyeful of what they’ve got going on. These Metrowest Chamber of Commerce leaders weren’t bashful about donning skirts for a bit of a fashion show. After all, they’re part of the group that has supported the new Women’s Initiative Leadership program, which culminates on June 9 with a dinner and awards ceremony.
They include (top row): John Strickland, Bose Corporation ; Brian McEvoy, TD Banknorth; Jake Green, MetroWest/495 TMA ; Bill Pezzoni, Mirick O’Connell ; Bob Schecter, Bartleby Scriveners; Joe April, MassBay Community College; Ted Welte, President, MetroWest Chamber of Commerce; Fran Colantonio, Colantonio, Inc., and Chris Kostiw, Sovereign Bank.

Put him in a skirt and he curtsies like a ballerina, then laughs at himself.

It’s easy to forget that Christian used to catch touchdowns for the Patriots (and Seattle and Carolina) not long ago because his personality is so well suited to his new gig: coanchor of Dirty Water TV, a show about area nightlife. Christian has appeared as a football commentator since leaving the NFL, but enjoys the give-and-take with cohost Jennifer Manley on the show (on NESN at 11:30pm every other Saturday and on YouTube) and getting out to meet people in their favorite watering holes, like The Greatest Bar, shown here.

“I wanted to branch out and be myself,” he says. “We go into a different bar every Wednesday to tape, and every neighborhood has a different personality. It’s not like California where everything is cookie-cutter. People have roots here and I like that.”

How does it feel to wear a skirt? “I’m comfortable with my femininity.”

What does it take to succeed in the restaurant business? "You can’t like it, you have to love it," says Bruno Marini, who spent years managing the Federalist on Beacon Hill and Ambrosia in Back Bay before opening Olivadi in the center of Norwood last fall.

"I always wanted to be a pastry chef but I couldn’t be in the kitchen all day without seeing people," he says.

On March 12, Bruno steps to the plate in the Girl Scouts’ Cookie Creations contest at the Hotel Commonwealth, a battle among local chefs for the best dessert using the iconic cookies. He won’t divulge the secret recipe, but hints: "I don’t want to deconstruct the cookie too much so people don’t know what it is … I’ve got a great gelato guy working on something."

How does it feel to wear a skirt? "Cold."

What’s his favorite Girl Scout cookie? Caramel deLites.

Bostonians should drink more champagne, says Monsieur Jean-Chronberg, general manager of The Beehive supper club that everyone’s been talking about. He’s trying to broaden our collective culinary and cultural horizons with this unique subterranean space that’s modeled on the eclectic gatherings of Paris artists during the Jazz Age.

And we like his style – in addition to the fabulous cowboy boots – he insisted on greater representation by women in classes when he taught at the Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie and Ecole de Sommellerie des Laurantides, both in Quebec, and on female sommeliers at his restaurants there.

How does it feel to wear a skirt? “It’s probably one of the more comfortable clothes I know, it’s very freeing.”

Once office-bound and out of shape, Peter is more than willing to flex his considerable biceps, even if it means doing so at 7am in 24-degree weather on Boston Common.

A little winter can’t psych out the motivator behind Ultimate Boot Camp, the early-morning exercise groups that run, stretch and do squats in several locations as the sun comes up every day.

"We encourage and motivate people of all fitness levels while kicking their asses," he says. Notably, about 80 percent of his clients are women, and a large number rejoin after their four weeks of morning calesthenics are over.

After group members Carmine Morreale (visible in photo) and Curt Florczak donned skirts to support Peter’s goosebump-riddled photoshoot, we’re inclined to believe that, maybe, with the right long underwear, this could be fun…

Since 1996, thousands of people have danced the last night of the year away with Jeff -- despite barely knowing him.

The co-founder of the Resolution Ball and Back Bay Gala New Year's Eve events puts on a heck of a black-tie-optional party, and he has always had an ulterior motive. He started the events 12 years ago as a fundraiser for The Ellie Fund, which he and his brother had founded in honor of their mother, who died of breast cancer.

In fact, Jeff and his brother, Eliot, developed their business, The Boston Event Guide, to promote fundraisers for The Ellie Fund, now one of the best-known breast cancer resources in the area.

"Almost all of the events we do have some charitable component to them," he said. "But we also wanted a way to let people know about events before they saw the pretty party pictures."

How does it feel to wear a skirt? "What makes you think this is my first time? I was a nun for Halloween."

If these legs look familiar, it’s because Billy Costa has worn women’s clothing before, appearing on stage in a wedding gown and dressing as Britney Spears (complete with pigtails).

Whether it’s his voice or his legs, Billy’s one of the most-recognized media personalities in the area because he does everything from deejaying weddings and charity events to more than 20 years as straight man for the KISS 108-FM Matty in the Morning Show.

As a foodie, he’s celebrating the fifth year of his NECN show, TV Diner. On November 15, TV Diner hosts its second gala at Herb Chambers’ Sharon dealership, with 25 restaurants serving up their Platinum Plate candidates to benefit the Floating Hospital for Children.

For info on the event, go to http://www.necn.com/TV-Diner-Upcoming-Events  tickets may be purchased through Ace Tickets or 1-800-MY-SEATS.

How does it feel to wear a skirt? “I’m getting a lot more fresh air here than men are supposed to get in some areas … and I’m going to get it on the morning show.”

Forget the supposed pink hat controversy – skirts are the new mark of true Red Sox fans. And those fans will light up the phones on August 14-15 when the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon gets underway on WEEI 850-AM sports radio, where Jason Wolfe, left, is program director, and on NESN, where Tom Caron, right, is a pre- and post-game program host. (Dr. Stephen Sallan, center, just saves lives at Dana Farber, where he’s chief of staff.)

I am a feminist because

"... when I was running for office, I called the local domestic violence agency and said I would like to be of help. Issues affecting women are often thought of as women's issues, but I know it's important for men to be involved in these issues, too. Gender should not matter."

I am a feminist because

"…we have been dealing with more female CFOs and commercial sales reps and I thought it was important that we be aware of women’s issues, of what it’s like to be in that role and to work with men in what is traditionally our role. I hired a consultant, Nancy Cantor, to teach my staff how to communicate with women, how they want a transaction to go. And she holds leadership development seminars with our female employees. It was a good business decision but also the right thing to do."

I am a feminist because

"… I met Ellie at a networking event, when she told me she started a foundation to fund breast cancer research. I didn’t have money or time to give, so I provided her and ArtBecause with office space and computers. She’s a master networker, so she has helped get the word out about my company, Computer Recycling USA, and we’ve created sustainable donations for her. I want to do things the right way for the right reasons."

Sure, they may look like professional athletes, but believe it or not, Barnet Kessel, left, and Gary Brodsky are just regular guys who do some extraordinary stuff in their free time.

They’re captains of a Pan Mass Challenge team, the Platelet Pedalers, who were recently adopted by the Kraft family, owners of the New England Patriots, to support Dana Farber’s Dr. Ken Anderson, a blood cancer researcher.

He keeps our hearts pounding with diving saves in the waning minutes of close games and he keeps his teammates guessing in the locker room.

Along with hot sauce hijinks with his pals, there was the press release about a new player recruited from Gibraltar (El Lobo looked suspiciously like Matt in a wig), and his curious resignation from the team in favor of a showbiz career with Blue Man Group.

Ernie is everywhere – and we’re not sure if his media exposure is all related to selling cars.

Still, skirt! offers props to the proud owner of the Boston Militia women's tackle football team, which plays this spring at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville.

"I liked them so much I bought the team," he says.

He also knows how to treat a lady. "Eighty-five percent of decisions to purchase an automobile are made by women. Any salesman worth his salt knows he must pay attention to the woman, otherwise the deal will not go down."

The danger of volunteering is that you never really know what you’ll be asked to do… take it from these guys, who stepped up to help recruit mentors and raise funds for the Big Sisters Association. As members of the year-old Young Professionals Board, they’ve been part of a big awareness and fundraising push for the Big Sisters, but their tasks are generally limited to throwing parties and networking after hours (Ryan is a consultant, Sven works for IBM, and Jose is a pediatrician). If you’re getting their invitations, you know you’re with the "in" crowd.

Hockey players have always been cool in Boston, but put a few of them in skirts and—wow—is it getting warm in here?

These guys do more than skate, though: Marty McInnis, left, pitches in with Golfers Against Cancer; Jeff Serowick, center, heads the Sports Saves Souls Foundation; Bruins co-captain Glen Murray supports the Tourette Syndrome Foundation; and Tony Amonte, right, supports Uncle Doug’s Kids, a Katrina relief organization.

Joe Cummings wants the Boston Breakers women’s professional soccer team to be a household name, and he’ll obviously do anything to make it happen. This is his second shot at fielding a women’s pro team, as the WUSA league folded in 2003 after three seasons. For Cummings, chasing this dream for eight years stems from having two sisters whose options were limited before Title IX, he says. "I also taught school for 21 years, and that has a lot to do with it.

On the field, Jarvis Green sacks quarterbacks, brings down offensive linemen and wreaks havoc on the New England Patriots’ rivals.

Since 2002 he has amassed an impressive record – and collected a couple of Super Bowl rings. But at home, the Louisiana native is working to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, especially single moms.

"When I go home, I always go back to the area where the levy broke," he says. "Downtown is better than ever, but for three miles east and west of the city it’s a massacre. There are still people in need."

Wait, before you think of course THEY would wear skirts, understand that the men of Fox Morning News, pictured here, have earned the distinction. This page is a place of honor for men who perform public service, particularly working on women’s issues. To their credit, Gene Lavanchy, left, Doug Meehan, center, and Doug “VB” Goudie often educate the public and rally resources to aid women on their show – along with the personal jibes we enjoy over  morning coffee. Who’s next?
