A native of Sri Lanka, she started college at Tufts at the tender age of 15. Now a breast surgeon with Cambridge Health Alliance's Cambridge Breast Center, Nayomi is mother of three very young children who has negotiated a shorter work week to juggle all of her responsibilities.

My rules for living:

1. Keep things simple.  It makes it easier to get things done.

2. Know your limits. I have tried to manage things so I can handle everything that needs to be done, and I try to remember not to be afraid or too proud to ask for help.

3. Pick your battles. In surgery, things have to be done in a certain way, so if  something is important, I let people know what I need.

4. Enjoy the smaller moments in life. Everyone talks about their big vacations but every day you can find something to appreciate.

5. Take care of yourself. So many people depend on you as a woman, or as a doctor. Get your physical exams and mammograms. You have to look out for yourself and know you’re helping everyone else by doing that.
